Definition

Semantic authority is the degree to which a brand or source is recognized by AI systems as an authoritative voice on a specific topic domain — built through consistent, deep, original coverage of that domain across multiple content formats and sources. Semantic authority is the AI search version of topical authority — with the additional dimension that it is assessed at the semantic level, not just the keyword or topic cluster level. A brand with semantic authority on AI search is consistently retrieved and cited across the full range of conceptually related queries in that domain, not just for the exact topics it has explicitly covered. Building semantic authority requires depth, consistency, and breadth of coverage that signals genuine domain expertise to AI systems.
