Domain Rating is Ahrefs’ proprietary metric (scored 0–100) measuring the strength of a website’s backlink profile relative to all other websites in the Ahrefs database. It is one of several domain-level authority metrics used alongside Domain Authority (Moz) and similar proprietary scores.
Domain Rating correlates with AI citation authority indirectly — sites with strong backlink profiles tend to have strong topical authority and source credibility signals that AI systems also value. While Domain Rating itself is not an AI-native metric, it is a reasonable proxy for the kinds of external authority signals that contribute to AI citation priority.
