DeepSeek is a Chinese AI company that has developed a series of large language models — most notably DeepSeek-R1 — that have achieved performance comparable to leading US models at significantly lower reported training costs. Its models are open-source and have been widely adopted in research and commercial applications. DeepSeek’s rapid emergence and open-source distribution have expanded the AI search ecosystem beyond the handful of US-based platforms that previously defined it. As DeepSeek models are integrated into consumer and enterprise products, they represent an additional retrieval surface for brands to consider.
